Cooling:

Save the cost of a "no cooling service call" by checking the following:

  • Check outside unit to ensure air flow is not blocked.
  • Switch power "on" to outside unit at least 24hrs before startup.
  • Clean or replace air filter.
  • Set thermostat to desired temperature and set to "cool".  Set fan to "on" if continuous air movement is desired.  Set to "automatic" if automatic operation is desired.

NOTE:  if your air conditioning system fails to operate properly: be sure power to unit is on, check for dirty filters, check thermostat for proper setting, check for blown fuse or tripped circuit breaker

Humidity:

Did you know that it costs more to heat dry air than humidified air?

Warm dry air acts like a giant sponge, soaking up moisture from everything it touches. The normal humidity range for human comfort is between 35% and 45% relative humidity. Low humidity in your home can cause static electricity and dry out wood furniture and hardwood flooring. Be sure to change your humidifier pad yearly to prevent surface growth and migration of bacteria.

Air Quality:

Air pollution can sometimes be worse inside your home than outside. As you increase the air-tightness of your home, you must also keep air quality in mind. Improve your air quality with an electronic, media air cleaner or whole-house HEPA filter. If you are planning to make your home more air-tight, be sure to check the need for improved ventilation. A mechanical ventilation system is a must for any well-sealed home. A heat recovery ventilator goes a step further and provides more energy-efficient ventilation by reducing heat loss as outdoor air replaces indoor air.
